The Tulsa Ornament for 1989 | Gilcrease Museum | ||||||||||||||||||||
This year’s ornament celebrates Tulsa's Gilcrease Museum, housing the world's largest, most comprehensive art collection of the American West. The museum also has a vast Native American and Hispanic Heritage collection.
The back piece shows Gilcrease's architecture. The distinctive, rounded entryway roof and connecting interior vault is based on the traditional Iriquois Longhouse. On the left is the messenger bird, designed by Woody Crumbo, Native American artist from Oklahoma. The front piece features the famous, powerful bronze by Fredrick Remington entitled Stampede. |
