The Tulsa Ornament for 1997 | Tulsa's Cain's Ballroom | |||||||||||||||||||||
This year’s ornament depicts Cain's Ballroom, home to "Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys".
In 1924 Tulsa was the home of Oil Barons, Roughnecks and Cowboys. Madison Cain filled the 8,000 sq. ft., "spring loaded", maple dance floor with young debutantes learning to fox trot, waltz and tango at the Cain's Academy of Dancing at 423 N. Main. In February of 1934, a young Texas fiddle player named Bob Wills brought his Texas Playboys to Tulsa and the Cain's Ballroom became their home. It also became home of thousands of loyal fans, and is still today a showcase for a variety of musical groups and stars. Truly a Tulsa Landmark. |
