2005 TULSA ROSE GARDEN

2005

This ornament honors the Tulsa Rose Garden.

The back piece shows the view looking east over several rising terraces. One sees the central path through the garden with its fountains and pools, and rows of rose plants with conical shaped juniper trees on either side. Stone walls and steps connect each level up to the backdrop of trees and trellises.

The frontispiece features a beautiful rose atop the 18-foot metal sign saying "Tulsa Rose Garden", located in front of the garden facing Peoria Avenue.

The Rose Garden was constructed by hand labor with teams of horses as a WPA project in 1934-35. The Garden Club purchased the first rose plants in 1935. Today, the Rose Garden boasts over 4,000 rose plants representing 200 varities.
