This year's ornament celebrates the Pavilion at Tulsa Fairgrounds. Built in 1932 as a WPA project, it is one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in Tulsa. Made of blond brick, it has colorful terra cotta art along the rooftop and above eight grand entrances.
The Back features the west entrance with tiles depicting livestock, handlers and florals. Its frame shows tiles from the south entrance.
The front shows an enlarged terra cotta frieze of cattle, horses and workmen flanked by stately rams & the name Pavilion. Since 1932, the 6,000+ seat Pavilion has been home to Tulsa pro basketball, hockey, & soccer teams. Today it is used for a variety of events, including graduations, rodeos, fairs, concerts, horse shows and the famous annual Akdar Shrine Circus, Disney on Ice and Sesame Street Live! events.
