This year's ornament celebrates Tulsa's Historic Circle Cinema. Opening in the summer of 1928, it showed silent films and cartoons accompanied by live organ music.
The Circle Cinema has had many ups and downs til 2002 with aid of The Circle Cinema Foundation, its interior was restored: new lobby, concession area, local art gallery and two new screens! Now it is a cultural treasure for every-one, operating as the only non-profit cinema in the area showing independent, documentary, foreign & blockbuster films to educate, and entertain.
The back shows the historic facade, with its unique red circle marquee, (enlarged at right). The front depicts a film strip, Rt.66 sign, and “Stay Gold" all painted on the south side of the building. At center is the cinema's historic, restored Robert Morton pipe organ, and movie-goers are shown on the right.
